A Life Remembered

from the Haven Today Program Archives for Wednesday, September 12, 2007:

He was all about truth. And the number one truth was God’s grace and that led the late D. James Kennedy to found Evangelism Explosion, a program that taught others how to share their faith in Christ alone. On the day before his memorial service, don’t miss the next HAVEN Today with Charles Morris and a program called “A Life Remembered”.

Also, don’t miss the Live Webcast of Dr. Kennedy’s funeral which will take place at 1pm Eastern, 12pm Central.

Update

Christianity Today has posted an article on the ministry and impact of Dr. D. James Kennedy, including links to many sites around the web regarding his life and his death.

  1. What a Gracious Great Savior!

Again this sermon from Dr. Barnhouse in 1953 underscores what the Spirit of Grace was doing in Acts 8:

He went to the slaugther with HIS MOUTH CLOSED.
    Philip OPENED HIS:

Act 8:32 Now the passage of the Scripture that he was reading was this: “Like a sheep he was led to the slaughter and like a lamb before its shearer is silent, so he opens not his mouth.
Act 8:33 In his humiliation justice was denied him. Who can describe his generation? For his life is taken away from the earth.”
Act 8:34 And the eunuch said to Philip, “About whom, I ask you, does the prophet say this, about himself or about someone else?”
Act 8:35 Then Philip opened his mouth, and beginning with this Scripture he told him the good news about Jesus.

THANK YOU FOR SHARING THIS JOHN!!!

We certainly can learn from such MOUTHY Fathers of the Faith, Dr. D James Kennedy!

Mat 1:21 She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.”

When I come to the Bar of Heaven I only have a right to the LAKE OF FIRE! I have already done enough :(.

Without His civil rights being violated I would be left there, without Hope! No, I have no right or merit I can claim before the Bar of Heaven to be received into Everlasting Life!

We do have a void in America now.

My prayer is “LET THE PREACHERS BE SENT WITH MOUTHS OPENED” settling it with such clear TRUTHS of the Gospel.

We have no right to open our mouth and complain about anything!

Php 2:14 Do all things without grumbling or questioning,
Php 2:15 that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world,

The one last comment here about it is the thought that no Adamic nature should open their mouth. Jesus did not even open His while in the “flesh”/”Adam’s skin”.

Only the New Creature in Christ should be heard.

Obviously that need not be heard in here but I hope it’s admonition is acceptable?

We are of the world or of Christ! There is no middle ground!

Again, thanks for sharing with us this tribute to Dr. D James Kennedy and the wonderful sermon that got caught his heart from 1953!

  2. The impact Dr. Kennedy had on the Faith will be felt for a long time to come. May God continue to raise up such men.

  3. How you at once maintain an appreciation for MR/WHI and the likes of Kennedy is truly a feat to be admired. Do you actually listen to Horton when he castigates the Religious Right? Just who do you think he’s taking to task if not Kennedy?

    Zrim

  4. Thank you for the admiration, zrim. Allow me to quote my post from September 6, in which I give evidence of my awareness of the tension between the emphases of Modern Reformation and Dr. Kennedy on political activism from the pulpit:

“Regardless of one’s opinion of the amount of politics that comprised Dr. Kennedy’s preaching ministry, we should be grateful for his leadership in lending credibility to the idea that Calvinists can be great evangelists, in his writing Evangelism Explosion, currently used by probably more denominations than any other method of evangelism, from what I’ve heard, anyway. I’m glad they’re continuing to air the broadcasts of the church services–I love the music at the beginning and do appreciate some of the informative programs on current events and issues political and religious.”

Even though I agree with the Modern Ref crew that it’s wrong to so closely identify the Kingdom of God with partisan politics as to risk blurring the lines between them, I do happen to vote with the “Religious Right.” I’ve been able to detect by listening to Kim and Mike, at least, that they themselves are politically conservative, so it’s not like Kennedy is the enemy. He’s a great and important figure for his leadership in evangelism, and that’s where the bulk of my admiration for his ministry lies. The music on his programs also makes my Sunday every week.

I’m not blinded to his good qualities by my lack of enthusiasm for his political activism. I just call him the “Presbyterian Jerry Falwell,” and leave it at that. Only I think Kennedy’s never had to measure his mouth to see if his foot would fit into it.
