Justification
Q. What is justification?
A. Justification is an act of God’s free grace,
wherein he pardoneth all our sins (Ephesians 1:7),
and accepteth us as righteous in his sight (2 Corinthians 5:21),
only for the righteousness of Christ imputed to us (Romans 5:19),
and received by faith alone (Galatians 2:16).
#520, The Trinity Hymnal
Jesus, thy blood and righteousness
my beauty are, my glorious dress;
‘midst flaming worlds, in these arrayed,
with joy shall I lift up my head.
Bold shall I stand in thy great day;
for who aught to my charge shall lay?
Fully absolved through these I am
from sin and fear, from guilt and shame.
When from the dust of death I rise
to claim my mansion in thge skies,
ev’n then this shall be all my plea,
Jesus hath lived, hath died, for me.
Jesus, be endless praise to thee,
whose boundless mercy hath for me
for me a full atonement made,
an everlasting ransom paid.
O let the dead now hear thy voice;
now bid thy banished ones rejoice;
their beauty this, their glorious dress,
Jesus, thy blood and righteousness.
John
I have read and pondered a lot on this matter of justification.
I come to this, the two definitions from Romans 5, verse 16 and verse 18.
In verse 16, the Greek word means simply AN EQUITABLE DEED.δικαίωμα
dikaiōma
dik-ah’-yo-mah
From G1344; an equitable deed; by implication a statute or decision: – judgment, justification, ordinance, righteousness.
In verse 18, the Greek word means simply, AQUITTAL.δικαίωσις
dikaiōsis
dik-ah’-yo-sis
From G1344; acquittal (for Christ’s sake): – justification.
I look to the EQUITABLE DEED OF NONE OTHER THAN JESUS CHRIST, WHICH HE DID BY ORDINANCE IN OBEDIENCE TO THE WILL OF GOD OUR HEAVENLY FATHER.
You seem to be an equitable guy? An equitable husband perhaps? Maybe even an equitable father too?
But nothing you have ever done or ever will do equates to what Jesus had done in doing what He did for you and me, nothing, nothing!
But by His ACT, Our Heavenly Father, though I am guilty of deeds I have done already and I clearly know it, condemned already by my own hand, heart and mind have received the SENTENCE, ACQUITTED.
The acquittal comes by the FAITH GIVEN AS A GIFT FROM GOD TO ME TO BELIEVE IN THE EQUITABLE DEED OF CHRIST JESUS.
By the Faith delivered to me, “quickened” to me by the Sanctification power of the Holy Ghost I am now able to use it to BELIEVE I HAVE BEEN ACQUITTED and then RECEIVE THE ACQUITTAL. I now can receive God’s Grace, that that I do not deserve. Now God can be merciful to me, not doing to me what I do deserve!
What is the outcome? I NOW HAVE PEACE WITH GOD THROUGH THE BLOOD OF HIS CROSS, GOD RECONCILES ME TO HIMSELF BY THE BLOOD OF THE CROSS OF JESUS CHRIST!
Col 1:19 For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell,
Col 1:20 and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross.
Oh, how innocent is He? Oh, how guilty I be?
Innocent!! Innocent!!
Guilty!! Guilty!!
God makes Peace with me!
