#35 Trinity Hymnal (© 1990)
Frederick W. Faber, 1848; alt. 1961, 1990
My God, how wonderful thou art,
thy majesty how bright!
How beautiful thy mercy seat,
in depths of burning light!
Wondrous are thine eternal years,
O everlasting Lord,
by holy angels day and night
unceasingly adored!
O how I fear thee, living God,
with deepest, tend’rest fears,
and worship thee with trembling hope,
and penitential tears.
Yet I may love thee too, O Lord,
almighty as thou art;
for thou hast stooped to ask of me
the love of my poor heart.
No earthly father loves like thee,
no mother half so mild
bears and forbears, as thou hast done
with me, thy sinful child.
How wonderful, how beautiful,
the sight of thee will be,
thine endless wisdom, boundless pow’r,
and awesome purity!
Hi Cap’n…
Probably a good test but hard to follow. I could better understand the Q/A section if the questions and answers were in relative juxtaposition to one another…
Terrell,
Thanks for the constructive criticism.
To be honest, I had intended to do something to make the Q&A less labor-intensive, however, since I had cut this entire post from something I’d written down previously and pasted it to my blog in one fell swoop, the blog decided to be contrary and lead me to believe that it couldn’t post this for some reason incomprehensible to me. But then, the next day, when I visited my post, there it was! Just like Christmas!
Just a moment ago I entered all the questions in small italic print next to the answers and, sure enough, I got the same error message. Perhaps the revision will magically appear tomorrow! Fear not, I’ll keep trying as time permits, so keep checking back!
Just One but He has nine billion names.
Dearest Watcher,
Names like YHWH, El Shaddai, Immanuel, Jesus, all valid names of the One God. But once you depart from the revelation of inscripturated truth in the 66 canonical books of Christian orthodoxy, you’ve fallen off the edge of the earth, I’m afraid. Repent of your theological heresy, admit you’re inherently sinful (ahem!) and trust Christ who obeyed YHWH’s Law perfectly for those who couldn’t (which includes YOU!), suffered the condemnation which sinners deserve so that sinners who believe can be justified before the one divine Judge with much fewer than nine billion names! There’s room at the Cross for you! But no room for idols.
Hi Again Cap..
Re the sign. I wonder what position the church takes? The sign is innocuous enough, (is there a spell check on this thing?) but leaves the question – are they or aren’t they? Food for thought…
Sorry, Terry,
I’m not clear about to what it is you are referring. What sign? The church’s position on what? There are a few blanks that need to be filled in which my head’s not filling.
